Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer
The protagonist in my book, would be Edward. I think that his "ordinary world" would be at the house in Forks where Carlise and Esme live, with all of his family (Alice, Jasper, Rosalie, Emmett, Esme and Carlisle,) Bella and Renesmee.
My Photo: "The Cullen Family Symbol" http://thetwilightsaga.com, 7 Aug. 2009, Web. 2 Dec. 2011
I chose this photo because in it, it says, "The strength of a family, like the strength of an army, lies in it's loyalty to each other." and to me that makes it seem like BECAUSE Edward's family is so strong, he feels comfortable around them and safe.
My Quote: "I didn't pay much attention to the chuckles behind me while I punched and kicked the rest of the boulder into a fragments. I was having too much fun, snickering away the whole time. It wasn't until a new little giggle, a high-pitched peal of bells, that I turned away from my silly game. "Did she just laugh?" Everyone was starring at Renesmee with the same dumbstruck expression that must have been on my face. "yes," Edward said. "who wasn't laughing?" Jake muttered, rolling his eyes. "Tell me you didn't let go a bit on your first run, dog," Edward teased, no antagonism in his voice at all."That's different," Jacob said, and I watched in surprise as he mock-punched Edward's shoulder. "Bella's supposed to be a grown-up. Married and a mom and all that. Shouldn't there be more dignity?" Renesmee frowned, and touched Edward's face. "What does she want?" I asked. "Less dignity." Edward said with a grin. "She was having almost as much fun watching you enjoy yourself as I was." " (Breaking Dawn Stephine Meyer 522.)
I chose this quotation because it shows that Edward is having fun hanging around his parent's house (the quote doesn't tell that Edward is at his parent's house, but he is,) with Bella and Renesmee.
*The pressures that exist for Edward in his ordinary world, are that he has to lie to everyone in Forks pretty much to hide what he is, and this puts a great amount of pressure on him and his family to act human.
*Renesmee definitely creates peace at the Cullen house. Jacob, is probably the person that causes conflict, because he's imprinted on Renesmee and no one really likes that.
*I think that the living space in their house is the place that most provides a sense of comfort for the Cullen's, because that's where they talk with each other and where they go whenever they have someone(s) over.
*I think Edward could feel reluctant to leave Forks, because of Bella. Her dad lives in Forks-and even though her mom lives in Jacksonville which is even further away-and she wont want to leave her dad behind.

Free Choice
Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer
The book that I'm reading right now is Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. My questions about this book are: how would this series have changed, if Bella hadn't moved to Forks, Washington, what would have happened to her? Where would Edward be?
I think that the answers to my questions are: if Bella hadn't moved to Forks, then I think that she would've ended up traveling with her Mom and her Mom's boyfriend and I think that she would've found someone in the traveling. I also think, that she wouldn't have opened up as much as she has in the series-from Twilight to Breaking Dawn-without meeting Edward. To answer my other question, I think that Edward would've kept looking until he did find the girl that he was meant to be with. I think that eventually, since he wouldn't have found "his girl", that he would end up becoming a non-vegetarian (he only drinks animal blood, so they-the Cullen's-consider themselves vegetarians,) because he couldn't live without her.
So, overall I think that Bella would eventually find someone, but Edward would continue to look even though she was never coming. So he'd eventually become a human blood-drinking vampire. It would definitely be a VERY different end to the book series.

The Hero of My Book
Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer
The hero of the book that I am reading right now, which is Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer, is Edward Cullen. He is the hero because of the qualities that he possesses that make him the hero which are: he's reluctant, he's innocent, he's willing and he's a warrior.
These qualities make Edward a warrior because when you think of a hero-or at least when I think of a hero-i think of someone that doesn't want to admit that they're the hero or that they've done something to save many of people. (Reluctant.) Also, the hero is usually innocent or seems and acts that way. The hero is more often than not willing to do anything to save someone(s). Finally, hero's are warriors, because of what they do for the people of their community and around the world! They fight for them, they help them and most of all, they usually win for them. Edward is reluctant because he refuses to admit that even though he thinks he's the Bad guy," he's been helping Bella all along. He's acts innocent, by in some parts of the story-the way that Stephenie Meyer has written it-he acts like there's not a care in the world. Like everything is OK. He's willing because even though it kills him to see Bella in pain, he changes her (into a vampire) so she's not in pain. He was willing to change her, even though he was dead set against it in the beginning of the series. Edward is a warrior, because he fights for Bella-sometimes literally-so that she can be happy. Also, he fights (in Eclipse,) Victoria to protect Bella, because Victoria was trying to kill Bella so Edward could feel the pain she felt when James (Victoria's partner who Edward killed in Twilight,) died by taking Bella away from Edward. He fought for Bella-and partly for himself-so Bella could live.
My proof of this is this quote from Breaking Dawn, " "Take the baby," Edward said urgently. "Throw it out the window." One. Two. Three. Four. "Give her to me," a low voice chimed from the doorway. Edward and I snarled at the same time. One. Two. Three. Four. "I've got it under control," Rosalie promised."(page.354 Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer.) This quote shows that Edward is a hero, because he's being the warrior because he's fighting for Bella (by helping her start to breath again,) and he's making sure that Renesmee (Bella's new baby,) is safe and not in harms way.

Character Archetypes
I am reading the book Breaking Dawn by Stephine Meyer. I am just past half way in the book, so I have a good idea of the character and what he (Edward's character) is like.
Edward Cullen, I find is the hero of this book set (to Bella.) So, I think that he is a warrior, he can be innocent, he changes and grows, he's willing and adventurous, and he's reluctant.
He's a warrior, because he fights for Bella even if everyone else is telling him that it's impossible or he wont be able to save her.
Edward is innocent because (sometimes) he just acts like there's not a care in the world, like nothing that could happen would break him.
In the Twilight saga, he changes and grows but in Breaking Dawn especially he changes and grows. I say this because, at the beginning of the book he was so dead set against turning Bella into a vampire, even though that's what she wanted. In the end, he did end up turning Bella, maybe not the way that he would've wanted her to be changed, but he did it anyway. This is also how he grows in the book, he becomes more laid back after Bella is a vampire, and see's that it wasn't such a bad choice.
Edward is willing and adventurous, because he was willing to change Bella-even though he was kind of forced to since she was dying-and adventurous just because of all the places that he's been as a vampire.
Finally, Edward is reluctant, because he's not willing to admit that he's the right person for Bella. That he is perfect for her. At the end though, he realizes that all along he was perfect for her and always would be.
If I could dream at all, it would be about you and I'm not ashamed of it.-Edward Cullen

Main Character
I am reading the book Sister Wife By Shelly Hrdlitschka
The main character in my book, is Celeste. (Thinking to herself.) "I am consumed with impure thoughts. My head is swirling with stories that would give the Prophet heart failure if he knew of them. I fear that I am destined for eternal damnation." (Shelly Hrdlitschka, Sister Wife page 1.)
What I have learned about this character, or the protagonist, is that she has impure thoughts about something that is so terrible, that the Prophet (the person that decides who the young girls will marry,) will not be impressed by the thoughts that she has if he finds out. Also, I have learned that she has gotten these impure thoughts about someone that she shouldn't even be thinking about. I learned this because I know what the stories about, and for a young girl like Celeste, to be saying and knowing that she is thinking impure thoughts, is showing that she's thinking about someone, or something she shouldn't even know.
As the plot progresses, I think that Celeste will continue to have these impure thoughts, and depending on what some of them are, maybe even act on them. If she does act on them, it could cause her to get married even sooner than she already is, or she could get thrown out of Unity/ The Movement.
I chose this video, because this is the life that Celeste is living, and second thinking. It's the way she's been raised, to know, and as she gets closer and closer to the age that she has to marry, she's starting to second guess her life style. She wants to know if it's worth it.
Making Connections
Reading this book, I immediately thought of the TV show, "Sister Wives." The part in this book, that most reminds me of the TV show is, when the back cover of the book, is talking about Polygamy. The text says, "Polygamy is the norm, strict obedient is expected and it is customary for young girls to be assigned to much older husbands." (the back cover) Now in the TV show, "Sister Wives," they aren't married to younger girls, but they are married to several. Another quote from the book, that reminds me of the TV show is,"Through the window I see them practically running down the road to the rambling house where Colleen, the youngest wife of Uncle Jeremy, lives." (Page.87 paragraph 4.) Since the story said that "their Uncle Jeremy's youngest wife, Colleen," it's implying that he has at least 2 wives.

About My Book
The book that I have just finished reading was called Cracked Up To Be by Courtney Summers.
In this book, a teen named Parker Fadley, was a girl of perfection who always wanted to have A's on her tests, perfect choreography for her cheers, who was the most popular girl in school and even the girl who had to most popular guy. But after one mistake, and too many drinks, she was at the bottom of the social scale at school. She had to talk to the school counselor once a week, she lost the guy, the position on the cheer team, and all of her old friends. Everyone was wanting to know what had happened to her that awful night at what would've seemed like a regular party at the the most popular guy's house, Chris. After the incident, Parker goes to school, wanting nothing but for everyone to just leave her alone. Parker's old friend, Becky, was now on the cheer captain, and trying to rub it into Parker's face. Parker has been falling behind in her classes, and had her teacher's push back the due date for all of her work. Chris and Becky start dating, despite the fact that Chris is still in love with Parker, and let's it be shown to Parker and even Becky. But half way through the year, someone new comes to the school that forces Parker to come out of her shell. His name is, Jake. At first she keeps up her act, but Jake then tells her how much and why he likes her, and even though she doesn't want to she starts to like him too. The secret that Parker has kept with her for about a year now, just needs to come out. When Jess's old boyfriend comes back, the things that happened that night at the party, all come rushing back into her head. The falling on the ground, the drinking, having Becky yell at her about the cheer squad. And the thing that sticks out the most. Parker walking into the forest, and finding her friend Jess, who had just broken up with her boyfriend, being raped by some college guy that crashed the party. Once he's back at the school, everything's going wrong. Parker's dog gets killed, she finds out that Jess was found dead, and her parents are now sending her off to a shrink after they'd just started to trust her again. Parker tells everyone what she saw, Chris starts getting over her and moving on to becky, and Jake, the guy she fell for, is going off to live with his mom, now parker has time for herself and to heal herself.
The thought of reading a book about a teen girl that went to wild parties, was the cheerleading captain, and ends up having something so terrible happen to them, that they have ot go see a shrink, doesn't seem like a book that I would want to be reading. Even though the beginning of the book took a while to get started, and into the exciting parts of the story, I thought that the book was very well written, and had a great set up. This set up was to leave you hanging at a really good part of hte story in the present, and then have a flash back to the past in Parker's life and then end the chapter, and leave you wondering what would've happened if the author hadn't put the flash back in that spot. The great story line, of the life of Parker Fadley was very interesting, it had great endings to chapters to keep you reading the book. I wish that the author would write a second part to the story, because the ending of the story, was jsut Jake, Chris, and Becky leaving Parker at the school, to do their own things. That is the only critisism that I have of the story.

My Reason
| “The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” |
I chose this quote because, it's true. If you read more, you'll know more. If you learn more, you'll go more places. If you read about all the places in the world, you'll know MUCH more about those places, than someone that hasn't read anything about it. (Usually.), and the more you learn about something. The further you'll go in life. You have the ability to do so much more with your life than someone that didn't get that education, or didn't learn. You can become a Doctor, a teacher, a vet, anything that you want to do. I also chose this quote, because it was a Dr.Seuss quote and it just has a fun rhyme to it. got quote at: http://www.readfaster.com/readingquotes.asp on September 23rd. 2011 at 2:40pm |
