In this book, a 13 year old girl named Dawn Rochelle has her life turned COMPLETELY around. One minute she's at school worrying about when her assignments due, and worried about going into high school. Wondering if her friend Rhonda will call. The next minute, she finds out she has leukemia and is told she only has six months to live. She gets put into a hospital, pocked and prodded every day for her chemotherapy. She makes friends with her room-mate Sandy who also has leukemia. Dawn now sees a glimmer of hope in the distance knowing she has someone to go through this with. After months of fighting the odds, the doctor's released Dawn AND Sandy form the hospital, and they were both "in remission." Dawn had forgotten how easy it was being a teen, without the stress of chemo and the possibility of dying hanging over you. The one thing that would never get easier for her though-would be seeing Jake Macka. Dawn had liked him for as long as she could remember. A couple months after Dawn's release, she gets a letter in the mail from the Chandler's,(Sandy's parents.) The letter was saying how Sandy had passed away, and that the box with the letter was items that Sandy had wanted for Dawn to have.
Thirteen years old. Leukemia. Meeting a best friend. Going into remission. Walking with Jake Macka; and then-loosing your best friend. Dawn Rochelle faces all the odds, and beats them. For now.....
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer
I liked this book, because it explained the story of Bree Tanner (the new born vampire in the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer, that the Cullen's tried to save,) that wasn't told in Breaking Dawn. It gives you more of an idea of what it was like for the newborn vampires, and what they had to go through. Also, it helped you follow along in Breaking Dawn better, if you've read this book. It clears everything up.
